About This Lesson
Learning Objective: Students will be able to design and explain a mini fitness circuit that improves strength, speed, or endurance, showing their understanding of exercise principles.
Materials to use:exercise cards, sentence starters, student instructions, and graphic organizer
In this activity, students will work in small groups to design their own fitness circuits using a variety of exercises. The activity will take about two class periods . First, I will introduce different types of exercises and review proper form for each. Students will then collaborate in groups of 3–4 to plan a 5–station circuit, deciding which exercises to include and how many repetitions or time at each station. Each group will test their circuit and adjust it based on results. Finally, groups will share their circuits with the class and explain their choices. In this activity, students work in small groups to design their own 5-station fitness circuits using a variety of exercises. Over the course of approximately two class periods, students will first review different types of exercises and proper form, then collaborate in groups of 3–4 to plan their circuits, deciding which exercises to include and how many repetitions or how long to spend at each station. Groups will test their circuits, make adjustments based on results, and finally share their circuits with the class, explaining their choices. This activity supports learning objectives by having students demonstrate knowledge of fitness principles while practicing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. During the activity, the teacher circulates to answer questions, provide guidance, and ensure students stay on task. Students engage in discussion, design, testing, and reflection, using materials such as cones, jump ropes, medicine balls, resistance bands, and printed exercise cards, along with paper or digital devices to record their circuits. This activity also serves as a formal assessment, allowing the teacher to evaluate students’ understanding of exercise principles, collaboration skills, and ability to explain their reasoning.
