About This Lesson

The ballet, Billy the Kid, was based on the notorious American outlaw who lived during the time when pioneers were migrating west. Choreographer Eugene Loring was invited to tell this story by establishing an American style of ballet movement danced to classical style music that incorporated the tunes of old cowboy songs. The score was written by American composer Aaron Copland. Lessons show how to create original dance motifs based on pioneer life, work, characters and legends, as well as motif writing. The universal theme woven throughout is Enduring Values.
