Academy biologist Jarrod provides a behind the scenes encounter with a savanna monitor (Varanus exanthematicus) exhibited in African Hall. Unlike many monitor lizards that hunt down large prey, this species goes for smaller animals. It roots around above and below ground for millipedes, beetles, crickets, snails, and other invertebrates.
