About This Lesson

This is a simple activity that is good with beginning through advanced dancers.  Requirements are easily modified to suit the level of dancers.  I use this with my beginning dancers before giving them a true choreography assignment/project.  This activity builds upon the knowledge of the 3 Elements of Dance (Time, Space, Energy). The concept is to have peers collaborate, utilize their name along with a movement and build a sequence using everyone' names/movements.  The movement phrase can then be abstracted and modified.  The goal is to teach a simple source for devising movement, building self-efficacy and building interest in the creative process.  Included are the simple directions and the rubric with expectations for scoring.
